MCGREEVEY: I DON'T KNOW WHO PAID FOR WEDDING
ELIZABETH, N.J. - The nation's first openly gay governor testified Thursday that his estranged wife paid for their 2000 wedding but he doesn't know who paid for their honeymoon to Rome or how much it cost. "Dina handled the wedding arrangements, and the wedding trip and to a large extent she handled the honeymoon," former New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey testified on cross-examination, during his second day on the witness stand in his high-profile divorce. McGreevey, 50, and his wife split in 2004, the same year as his resignation. He stepped down 13 months before his first term as governor was to end, announcing in a nationally televised speech that he was "a gay American." He said he had an affair with a male staffer while married to Dina Matos McGreevey.
Wedding Cake Orders Stolen in Wisconsin Bakery Robbery
A Wisconsin bakery is in a scramble to match 200 wedding cakes with the brides and grooms who ordered them after a robbery stole their safe. Burglars stole the safe at LaSure's Cafe and Bakery during a break-in early Tuesday. Owner Bob Heisler wasn't too concerned until he realized the safe held the contracts for every wedding cake order for the next two years. "My wife just about screamed," he said. "I mean, she just went nuts." The Heislers keep a hand-written record of every order -- the same way they’ve done it for 30 years, and the list is not backed up on a computer. The contracts include detailed drawings and requests for each of the nearly 250 wedding cakes they prepare each year. "Anything for after this coming Sunday, we don't have a contract," Heisler said.
Bakers looking forward to royal wedding
Prince Joachim and Marie Cavallier's upcoming wedding later this month may wind up being very lucrative for the nation's bakeries. The bakery chain Guldbageren (the Golden Baker) has launched a special wedding cake which will only be sold on the 24th of May, the royal wedding day. According to the chain's chief executive, Claus B Pedersen, it will be an 'out of this world cake experience'. 'A layer of sun-dried apricot and rhubarb compote will be spread on a sponge cake base. This fresh tartness will be accompanied by a heavenly caramel cream between more layers. As an extra touch, there will be roasted pumpkin seeds in the cake which adds crispness and depth,' he said. The cake will be coated with white marzipan and crowned with the Danish and French flags along with blueberries and strawberries.
